yeah am pretty worried about price,
currently looking into building my own projector...
looks interesting and only costs around £150 to make one plus the maintance is very low.
downside is that I can move it around meh

I've seen an online project making a projector by combining an overhead projector with an LCD screen

the make your own thing looks fun
you can pick up a new low end one for arround £300 now - but lamps do cost at least £100 and you do get the noise ofthe fan which can be annoying if your watchin a film and close by the box.
i aint seen one working so dont know what the quality is like but you can get LED projectors so the power use is low, no heat, instant start up and the lamps last 10,000 hours instead of 1000 to 2000....

if your fan is loud, you might consider using rubber mountings

Projectors are so cheap second-hand thesedays you can pick up a 1500+ lumens, with at least 500hr left on the bulb from ebay for £100-150, that these DIY projectors are redundant thesedays.
If anyone needs any pointers and advice, just ask!

Depends on what you mean by good...
It probably would struggle in a club setting, if "competing with the lights and UV" (UV can be a killer causing "screen-wash"). But there is no reason why it shouldn't do a nice 6-8ft screen tbh. Many moon ago at Sunrise I used a similar thing to get a nice 10ft screen, but was a slightly high spec projector.

Its done us proud on many an occasion... Did a few gigs at Bangor Uni using a large screen of approximately 30 x 20 ish and it had to content with UV lights etc Bit old now though... still it will be used until its demise haha

So long as you get some good use out it, that is really the important thing.
Projections look lovely using trees canopy as the screen for outside events, though it can sometimes draw unwanted attention. Or used to fill the top of a dome, which is a bit more discrete, just use a mirror to bounce the image upwards.
