Lorraine instead of posting your unprofessional slagging of the sound system on this public forum if you had asked the folks involved you would have discovered that the reason that the system sounded so thin was because we were made to switch off the bass because of complains by the locals and the venue manager gave Ed the choice to turn it right down, or switch it off, now your set would have sounded worse with absolutely no sound at all wouldnt it? Admittedly there was an issue with one side of the rig earlier in the night, having now tested the system no fault has been found, so this leaves the media played (the dj admitted his tunes were downloaded from the internet and not tested so may have been mono) or a cable fault. Next time you feel like slagging someones business off, either do it to their face, or via private email, not on a public forum. Cant say i'll be at the next Messmedia because of your attitude. tis a fair comment nutcracker.....and I apologise for my comments. I personally wouldn't know who to PM on here for comments about the rig (and perhaps maybe Lorraine didnt either) Comments may have been a bit strong I agree......it is just a shame that the music had to suffer dynamically

John i have no problem with your comment, the sound wasnt good, but for the reasons which i've already explained.
I only take issue with the wording of the comments by Lorraine, and the way it was done a public forum, this has upset several people...the sound isnt even my job but i take offence because i know more than most how, given the chance, the rig would be turned up so loud and pumping your ears would be bleeding, (remember new year eve?), but venue restrictions now prevent this happening. The "tin pot techno" comment was offensive, not only to the rig but to technoheads, seems we have some musical snobbery here. I'm not even gonna mention the threat of using another system instead, its not a valid comment as the poster isnt the one booking the equipment.

Only just had a chance to read all this....and i must say im a little shocked. Not gonna comment on any of the above posts.....but i will say this: (from the perspective of a full timer sound guy.....)
(As with JOn, im unsure who to adress here...But@Men@Work...<sorry everyone else for the geek talk) ...Looking at it from my perspective, as a full time audio techy AND a party techy...If locals are complaining about the bass.....id look at this as one of the SIMPLEST problems to fix...... Option 1: Use 'Bandpass' bass bins....rather than 'reflex' of 'horn' loaded sound system. .....Put simply they dont throw bass very far....but have an IMMENSE presense in a small area. Fill the hall.....not the surrounding area. Option 2: DISTRIBUTE your audio....split your stacks up. If theres more SMALLER stacks in the room...you'll never be more than a few metres away from a speaker....so it doesnt have to be cranked up to f**k. Remember...speakers are rated at SPL 1w/1m...use those characteristics.
Wattage of speakers is NOT a measurement of volume. The volume we hear is an equation of Speaker sensitivity and distance away from that speaker. Reduce the distance from ear to speaker.....save on Wattage (Less Heavy Amps), Save on throw/ unwanted sound pollution (Hence most big rigs...especially outdoors being 4 stacks, facing inwards.)
peace, N
