I understand what everyone is saying here and i for one enjoy the nights you host but it seems here vek that you feel there is no room for improvement in your alien technology? I agree the decor fits the theme perfectly, Jumbo and his mask mooching round the dancefloor also fit perfectly but don't you think that there is always ways of making improvements within your party apart from the sound? For example the chillout to me has an empty feeling, kind of like a forest with no trees. Maybe you could plant some seeds yes? And maybe you could make some paper mashie spaceships flying round in the main room too?!
And i never said the parties should be free, obviously it'd be brilliant if it was but realistically it's not possible. But don't you think with the ever growing turn outs prices would go cheaper because the more people you have going the more profit you will make, thus making the bills easier to pay and allowing some of the funds to go back in to the party to improve it?!
I truly believe within any party there is always room for improvement and it can be acheived if you're willing to work for it.
And I know it's a party and parties are fun, I love res but like a child the same toys can get a bit boring

i can see everyones point here, ive onli been to rez a few times and i love it, but even within those few times i wud like to see my money improving one of my fav parties. if u basically do the sums your makin a lot, fine u want some of that profit for ya self but after 8 years and the alien crew working there regualr jobs, dont u think its time to change things a lil, just a lil tinney wenny bit, people arent asking much just a lil hint here and there a few new drops or some paper mashae spaceships (like seddon said) to make us feel an know that the best parties in our community are evovling to keep there punters intrested and happy, its like giving an old popular shop a new paint job doesnt cost much but makes a difference. if the alien's are too busy to make new decor, then why not look into the depths of our community as dave said us teenageers have more time on our hands, im sure one of our artistic types wud be honoured to make a few new decor peices for rez. basically what im sayin is, i know ppl are there for the music and the interaction of other people, but without the atmosphere you have nothing, the problem at the mo is that the atmosphere feels the same everytime. have a good one this weekend!

Lol - I don't know where this idea of bumper profits comes from. After 7 years of doing Trancemission I don't think we really made a penny. We managed to consolidate on the Audio side but the idea that we could walk around with more money in our pockets was laughable. You cannot say "do the sums" Josh cus you aint got all the numbers. You haven't got a clue how much the venue hire is, or the security, or the bar staff, or the headliner, etc. When you have the numbers THEN you can do the maths dude Believe me - breaking even is far more the norm than making a bean in profit. And making a loss is probably more common than that. And on the decor side of things - all our backdrops went in pretty much the same places every night. No one complained that there was no visual development. Presumably it became comfortable and peeps were like "hey - yeh, I'm in Trancemission", they weren't "oh it dont look no different". No - its doesn't take a lot of money to do s**t but it does take time - just ask Thom how much of his free time goes into his decor. That said just little changes keep it interesting and the occasional new piece or new thing of interest doesn't go amiss

nice one steve....seems that this decor thing is touching a few people close to the bone for some reason.....made paper mache spacships about 6 years ago along with a whole fleet of other hangy spinny viney climby floro dangly bits, u know what happened? ppl kept walking into em and f**k** about with em coz they were about 4 foot off the ground!! Any of you budding artists out there with suggestions for new 'decor' then i'd love to hear from you..... those of you prattling on about costs and things really havent got a clue what it takes to keep a successful event running, we are promoting a party, not some life affirming/changing sub culture that will change civilisation as we know it... I think its time for some of you guys on ere to get real and stop poking and prodding at something that is what it is, a good night with s**t hot tunes (some of the money, by the way, goes into 'buying' new music...a concept that is quite 'alien' for most djs coz they source their tunes from mp3 ripped low quality compressed music files), good people, nice vibes and good decor... so get real, get over yourself and channel your angst into something a little more creative....(maybe making paper mache spaceships.....) over and out

Hehe ... I'd love to know where people get the idea that there is money to be made in throwing a club night ... pretty much every decent one I've ever been to has been run at a loss ... yeah you make money one month, only to loose it all the next.
If alien res was about the money, wouldnt you see the organisers giving up their day jobs, and running it every weekend? I havent seen the accounts, but I can imagine that they dont make happy reading, at least not for the people who have been digging into their own pockets for the last 8 years supporting a night that may not have always been quite so popular.
Still there is probably room for a little manouvering now that res is possibly edging towards being in the black, perhaps having two rates, one for people on benefits/students and another for those of us who have a job?

hmm deary me, we shouldnt be gettin all offended at each others suggestions and opinions, after all, we are all entitled to em, and club nights like any organisations that deal with ppl should be glad to get feedback even if it is constructive criticism. (not to say that u should conform to what the masses want tho.) in an ideal, psychedelic friendly world every party would be different, but thats not always possible, club nights and freeparties are quite different, ud have to have alot of time on your hands and an amazing imagination to come up with new ideas every month and still hold down a job etc... the way i see club nights is, there a bit like a local pub for hippies (but obviously well better than any pub) but u get ur regulars who come to socialise in an environment they are familiar with and u also get ur random local club goers. i can understand that some ppl feel comfortable with what theyre used to, so changing the decor might not be important to those ppl. tho i have to agree that it would be nice to see some money spent on new decor once in a while, or a fancy laser or performance artists etc... but yeah, i would like to see international live acts on the lineup even more! neway have a good time guys, wont be at this 1 as im gonna make a big night of tanya's birthday freeparty 2night. ;D

i see ya point steve j and vek, but i made my asumption of profit and costs on estimates, to be honest i think my estimates would be preety close pending that i do know how many people the zanzibar holds, approx how many people go to rez, how much it costs to rent the zanzibar and how much sercurity costs, even with the new times , the last headliner at rez was scorb an i know how much he cost and can have a preety good guess into how much previous headlining acts where, fine your promoting a night but ive never seen any rez flyers in the time ive been going to rez (i know there has been some tho), the onli promoting ive seen is a few rez posters glued up round town and the posting on here (which is free). you made the asumption that i/we have no knowledge or experience in what it take to run and maintain a club night, i do from my event management classes in college ive run a few events and planned the entire thing as a team with costs and anything, i did my coursework on the zanzibar infact, estimating the prices and profit a club night like alien rez! i got high marks!! i might not have as much experience as you lot do but i think it was wrong of u to say we have no idea when you dont know for yourself if we do or not. were not saying that rez is a life changing sub culture, were just sayin some little improvements could be made to things like the chill out room and few things on the main floor! i understand that your would like to channel more of that profit towards more live international acts but people arent asking much. but im not putting this to argue my point anymore just making a point, i havent been to alein rez that many times so i dont know of any previous improvements made in any factor of the night, plus i have an amazing time at rez everytime i go and the decor is very nice even if it is the same everytime! vek i have no teenage angst against you or this amazing night you hold, i just have a different opinion on things, it would be nice if u could take an look into what keeps your ansty teenage regulars happy instead of makin lil sly comments, we are the people that keep your night running afterall. but anyways this is gettin very heavy, i dont want to offend or p**s anyone off and im very sorry if have in what i have said, rez will always be close to me but this is how i feel.

dont see what all the fuss is about personally itz the ppl that make the night not the decor, yeh sure a nice colourfull enviroment helps, if you wanna put effort in ,ie with some of your own then do that coz thats what happens anyway , ask the promoters then do it , and stop griping about it ,it takes a lot of time and effort to put a night on and so does getting the likes of scorb and any other international artist for that matter to play at your partynights, ive bin alien bout 6-7 times over past 5 years, never let me down, allways been a good night, dont see the problem, you are very lucky itz exists in the first place and it aint just one person that makes the night happen, enough said from me now, like i said dont see what all the fuss is about
