GENRE OF PSY TRANCE:
Some would call it funky, some would call it bouncy I just call it Psytrance. Can be found playing Progressive Psy on occasion too and sometimes even Psy Chill
CDJ NAME: Jon Kenobi
NAME & NICKNAME: Jon & Kenobi ;o)
BIOG:
I first caught the psychedelic trance bug while searching for a sound that went that little bit further than the usual run of the mill trance/techno.
Having discovered artists such as MWNN and Astral Projection through the mainstream record stores I delved deep into the realms of the psy world taking on board the likes of Hallucinogen, Cosmosis, Prana and The Green Nuns of the Revolution. From there my collection gradually grew and grew and a greater interest in finding the parties grew with it.
In 2001 it was evident to me that the Midlands psy scene had somewhat diminished with the famous Spacehopper parties being a thing of the past, so it was at this point that I decided to don the headphones and hook up with other like minded individuals in the area. This eventually turned into the West Midlands 'Stereo Chemistry' crew & parties. Since getting involved with the crew I was a resident DJ with them and along with party founder CosmoNaughty helped to promote and establish the Stereo Chemistry parties in the Midlands, before we decided to part company in 2006 to pursue other projects.
I am the UK rep for Australian Psytrance label PsyPneumatix Records ( www.psypneumatix.com ) and have been actively working with them since 2003 promoting the PP sound around the UK. I am currently putting together a Various Artist compilation CD titled 'About-Time' with label co-head Fresh. The CD should be hitting all the usual outlets in May 2007 so stay tuned ;o) A further compilation compiled by myself maybe ready before the year's out also....so save those pennies for a CD xmas present for your nearest and dearest
Over the years I have been fortunate enough to play for most of the major party promoters in the UK and have played alongside acts such as Cosmosis, Eat Static, System 7, Tristan, Shakta, Aphid Moon, Man With No Name, Dick Trevor, Sirius Isness, Laughing Buddha, Astralasia, Prometheous, EVP, Error Corrective, OOOD and Chris Organic to name a few. I am currently a resident DJ with long time party crew MessMedia who put on 'non club' venue style events.
In my DJ sets you can usually find me playing funky, groovy, bouncy full on psytrance...music to make you wiggle and giggle
