I currently live in Manchester and have been creating visuals in the last few years using Photoshop, Premiere (real video), and am currently making animations in Maya and want to know how to VJ. Unfotunately I have no money to buy a console, projector, laptop or commercial software (this may change within the next few months) and what do other people use (laptop with software versus hardware visual desk) including types of projectors and format/contrast issues. Where do I start and is there anything online that I can use (software, courses/tutorials) that is beneficial for psytrance or ambient?
I had a copy of MotionDive 5 but it kept on crashing and was in Japanese - is ArKaos or Ableton live the best option now? Also when I have had the opportunity to see other people VJ they are too busy to show me anything or are too busy to help training other people to mix visuals. Anyway, I would prefer to experiment and develop my own style.
Also, I am wondering what the demand is for VJing as compared to DJing at events and festivals (whether paid or unpaid) and if it helps to DJ in relation to synching the visuals with audio tracks.

Hey Candelmar,
I am sure other's will post comments here !!!!!
I use Arkaos for my VJ'ing on a Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz with 2 GB Ram, I unfortunatey do not create my own visuals as I do not have the time people like Tomas and Yodhe do !!! Its great that you create your own work much more like making music rather than just DJ'ing nice one buddy !!!
I personaly use Arkoas because I have a Mac but resolume looks infinately better !!! but is PC based , I have a DVD player and am saving for a V4 mixer (entry level visual mixer)
If you have a PC I would suggest getting resolume and Hopefully peeps here can give you info for that.
There seem to be more VJ's around at the moment but gigs come up quite often, best thing is to get out there and play whenever you can if people like your stuff , you'll get more work !!!!
Hope this helps EL Campino Cidfloss Corporation VJ
